Meet theresa

Midwestern native, artist, and teacher. Curating a collection of artwork ranging from water color, acrylic, and clay pottery.

Creating art is not only a profession, but a way to move through the world

Once she discovered her love of art, it never stopped.

Throughout her life, Theresa has always been fascinated with painting and drawing.

Seeing the world differently beyond the surface is partly what her work is known for, especially in nature. Color, texture, and light are all part of her work. The interest was cultivated in early years as a self-taught artist and further developed attending the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Taking in several hours of studio arts in addition to completing a degree in Human Growth and Development.

After working several years with persons with disabilities and mental health challenges, “seeing the world differently” began to reflect in her work. Experiencing others struggles and accomplishments, seeing others pain and joy began to influence her art. The images of faces are only part of the story. As a Master Gardener, paintings of nature reflects an appreciation of beauty that is surrounding. An animal lover, pet portraits are her latest focus. A request for a portrait to remember a beloved family pet is extra special.

Mediums used are not limited to paint and graphite. She challenges herself with mixed media and is always trying new methods and techniques. Watercolor on yupo paper, pastels, printing, altered books, ceramic, and textiles are included as part of her works.

Trained as a teacher, she has taught K-12th grade Art to assist students find their voice and to cultivate the same enthusiasm that she has for painting and drawing. In addition, Theresa and her husband Todd owned and renovated the Black Lantern Collective gallery and studio in Missouri Valley, Iowa. It was a place to bring people together to share music and visual art.
